To me it seems that Furlong's John Connor looked least possible as human military leader. I don't have anything against the actor but in T2 he was all to squeaky but he also looked so 1990-ish. He reminded more like Curt Cobain and seemed more to end up overdosed somewhere than be a big leader.
It's also strange why they didn't cast him to be in T3. I guess they had same reasons I wrote above.

Furlong in 1990 looked like the rebel that could lead the fight against skynet, now sadly he's fat and drug addicted.
On the other side, Bale was awful.

Being fat and ugly is not a problem in Hollywood any more
For instance Arnold Schwarzenegger who is so fat still acts in new action flic called "The Expendables"
Or Sly. I mean just look at those eyebrows from last "Rocky"
or on this picture from "The Expendables" where he looks like he's drooling and farting at the same time
Steven Seagal- did you know that that 58 year old is still making action flicks?
Or this poor old looser who had new action movie last year called "JCVD" (that stands for Jean-Claude Van Damme for those of you on whom the subtlety of the title was lost)
